HEROES OF THE HYPERNET (Hypercorps 2099 Kickstarter Backer Game)

After 19 glorious sessions of play, the Hypercorps 2099 KS Backer Game has come to an end! Read on to see what chaos Florisley-Ley (Steve), Chaplain (James), Tycheros (John), and Dr. Smith (Matt) get into in the future!

Thanks goes out to that quartet along with all of the Hypercorps 2099 backers (all my fun paperwork for sending out books starts tomorrow, folks), and it is my great joy to share their epic tale here. 🙂

Heroes of the Hypernet

May of 2099 has seen an untoward amount of precipitation in Neo York. Fawkes News places the blame squarely on Skull Island, the socio-anarchists claim that the repulsors from Lucrum’s two decades plus long flight are the cause, and on the Hypernet just about everything seems to be to blame.
It doesn’t matter
—Neo York is still as wet as the nearby ocean and just as polluted.

Highschool nerd, got into hacking, went and got a traditional college education in computer sciences
Computer Security guy for a while, part of a Redhat team
    No tramautic event yet

  4. Smith: Vigilante Infiltration Specialist
    Interested in magic/tech interface

Mists of Akuma

He’s right! I’m all done though — now we’re waiting on 3 maps and it’ll be ready to go. 🙂

Back in April (of 2016, to be clear), I was part of another kickstarter project, this time with Storm Bunny Studios: Mists of Akuma. Once again working with Mike Myler, we devised another campaign setting: asian steampunk noir post-apocolyptic fantasy… It certainly is a lot of themes, and it took a little jostling to make everything work – but in the end I think it did. Since it’s not released quite yet, I won’t know for some time if our backers and community agree.

It’s also for 5th edition – and was my first time working at a professional level in the edition. Since I was once again the editor, that meant I had to get up to speed, quickly. I read the entirety of the Players Handbook and most of the Dungeon Master’s Guide over the course of the month-long kickstarter to prepare for the writing and editing.

And for everyone to be involved, both authors and characters, the novel would be a single story split between the perspectives of a wide cast of characters.

The book was split into fifteen chapters told collectively by ten narrators, written by four authors – one of whom was me.

I wrote chapter 9, where a group of undead hunters try to assassinate Dracula, and chapter 12, where the main characters break into the Vatican to steal the pope’s power armor. I was also going to do the editing, but life got in the way and I had to let that go.

And, as a promotion for the setting and the novel, all of…
