Background Feature: Greater Purpose. Geno was once a wooden doll now given life by the strands of fate.
Bardic Inspiration 1d10 (4/Short Rest). As a bonus action on his turn, Geno can choose one other creature within 60 feet who can hear him. That creature gains one Bardic Inspiration die, a d10. Once within the next 10 minutes, the creature can roll the die and add the number rolled to one ability check, attack roll, saving throw, or weapon damage roll that it makes. The creature can wait until after it rolls the d20 before deciding to use the Bardic Inspiration die, but must decide before the GM says whether the roll succeeds or fails. In addition, a creature can use its reaction when attacked to use the Bardic Inspiration die, adding the result to its AC and possibly causing the attack to miss.
Countercharm. As an action, Geno can start a performance that lasts until the end of his next turn. During that time, he and any friendly creatures within 30 feet of him have advantage on saving throws against being frightened or charmed. A creature must be able to hear Geno to gain this benefit. The performance ends early if he is incapacitated or silenced or if Geno voluntarily ends it (no action required).
Feat: War Magic. Geno has advantage when he is concentrating on a spell and has to make a Constitution saving throw from taking damage, he can wield weapons or a shield in both hands and still make somatic components for spellcasting, and he can use his reaction to cast a spell (maximum casting time: 1 action) at a creature that provokes an opportunity attack from him.
Forest Imagery. Geno knows the minor illusion cantrip, using Intelligence as his spellcasting ability (spell save DC 12).
Forest Talker. Geno can use simple gestures to communicate basic ideas to Tiny-sized beasts that dwell in the forest.
Jack of All Trades. Geno adds +2 to any ability check he makes that doesn’t already include his proficiency bonus.
Magic Item (Rare): Starry Robe. While wearing this robe, Geno can use an action to pull off one of its stars to cast magic missile as a 5th-level spell. Every day at dusk 1d6 removed stars reappear on the robe (which can hold a maximum of 6 stars).
Spellcasting. Geno is a 12th-level spellcaster that uses Charisma as his spellcasting ability (spell save DC 16; +8 to hit with spell attacks). Geno has the following spells prepared from the bard’s spell list:
- Cantrips: dancing lights, eldritch blast, mage hand, true strike, vicious mockery
- 1st-level (4 slots): charm person, cure wounds, sleep, thunderwave
- 2nd-level (3 slots): invisibility, moonbeam, shatter, suggestion
- 3rd-level (3 slots): bestow curse, dispel magic, fear
- 4th-level (3 slots): confusion, polymorph
- 5th-level (2 slots): animate objects, hold monster
- 6th-level (1 slot): eyebite
Song of Rest. After a short rest, if Geno or any friendly creatures who can hear his performance regain hit points by spending one or more Hit Dice, each of those creatures regains an extra 1d8 hit points.
Extra Attack. Geno attacks twice.
Shortsword. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (1d6+3) piercing damage.
Light Crossbow. Ranged Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, range 80/320 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d8+3) piercing damage
* These do not come standard for forest gnomes but there’s no “I began as a wooden doll” race option in D&D 5E so watchagonnado.

My next setting book–I swear the last one for D&D 5E–is moving along too and by the time I get back from NYC next week most folks should have their pitches for that turned in.
